Welcome to the guest review blog for Emerald View Resort Villa a small Bed and Breakfast nestled on a hill overlooking the Caribbean Sea. We have been around for over 10 years not just providing accommodations for people all over the world but introducing and acquainting people with our culture which by the way is truly unique.

One of the most popular things that I come across are guest who come to the island with preconceive ideas or myths about the country and who know where they came from. They not t only bring their suitcases with them but a bag filled with myths about the island.I will try to unpack some of these myths......

The most common myth:  Jamaica is not safe therefore they should not leave the hotel........

Actually an entire way of vacationing was created based on this myth.....If your idea of vacationing is being held a voluntary prisoner  in an  over price facility well this article is not for you. Those of you who really want to explore the island but  genuinely believe this myth  read on.......

Visiting Jamaica is practically like going anywhere else in the world including some places in your own neighborhood. Exercise COMMON SENSE. There is a Jamaican saying, however, that common sense is not that common. So here are a few tips: The rule is safety  always comes  first.. For example, always contact your hotel or host and asked for an airport pick up. Makes sense you are in a new country without a clue of where you are going. By having your hotel make this arrangement for you chances are you will be met by someone who is accountable for your safety. If this services is not complementary. Request it. Most hotels or facililities will provide this service. It is definitely worth paying extra for.

Next for your tours please use an individual or company recommended by your hotel. Please not not use a tour operator  because he was a little less that the hotel driver. This mistake can potentially cost you more
For example,  A common situation is guest leaving expensive phone or camera   in my vehicle. If you picked a driver off the street and mistakenly leave valuables  in their vehicles there is a good chance you          may never recover them.

Further, I have seen tour operators start with very low prices and somehow after they are given the tour increase the price and often try to intimidate the visitor into paying them.Who need this sort of confrontation?

Another common situation is someone who  was recommended by a friend and the traveler
engage that person thinking he is a friend and would not charge. Always ask before how much each tour will cost regardless. The most common situation I see is the fatal attraction traveler who comes to the island and after a few minutes meets someone thinks they have made a connection with that person and assumes that
this "new friend " will not charge on

various tours.Listen, I do not care if they proposed marriage during the first one minutes of your meeting.....if you plan to engage their services please find out how much they will charge you.

Those of you who plan to rent car. First, make sure you can drive on the left side of the road. Second, if you want to go to a bar or club after dark, remember not to mix drinking with driving
